SS12 Fred Perry Laurel Wreath by Richard Nicoll delivers a collection that perfectly marries Fred Perry’s street and sportswear heritage with Nicoll’s catwalk sensibility manifested in the fabric, colour, texture and print throughout the range.
The inspiration for the season comes from a 70’s ath-sportswear silhouette and colour palette. The athletic uniform is then blended with a primary coloured floral print to help feminise and soften.
Key pieces include the butter cream Parka with ruched funnel neck collar, an essential Fred Perry product with Nicoll detailing and the insignia blue leather dress and top in toast with lazer cut laurels. The more delicate short and long sleeve broderie anglaise blouses in bright white and insignia blue create a lighter and fresher look that sits well alongside the heritage sportswear feel of the collection.
Colour blocking and striping take precedence. Racer back vests, raglan sleeve t-shirts in silk and modal, sheer knitted twinsets in bright coral and long sleeve jersey t-shirts provide the tops of the collection to team with the Fred Perry slim butter cream trousers. For the dress wearing fans of the brand the silk drop waisted shirt dresses in dazzling blue and bright coral, insignia blue playsuits and sleeveless printed shirt dresses take priority.
Fred Perry silhouettes are maintained with classic product such as the harrington jacket, pencil skirt, polo shirt and shorts. They are then given a twist with the fabrics used such as corduroy, silk and leather. The all over floral print is used on the giant silk dress, sleeveless dresses and is also used to feminise a version of the classic Fred Perry shirt.
As with previous seasons the Laurel has been added to product via a brooch or press stud. Some pieces have also been embroidered or cleverly applied via lazer cutting into the product.
The final additions are the accessories and shoes. A leather drawstring bag in toast fits the sporty vision perfectly alongside the silk floral scarf and Nella suede moccasins in midnight blue and cloudburst.
