Gold Label - Honky Tonk

For this season Lee Gold Label takes inspiration from way back where the Lee brand stated its mammoth journey - back to American West. The real history of the American West was told by its storytellers, in their drawings and timeworn voices that sang of loneliness on the frontier and recurring heartbreak. Inspired by their own lives on the edge of civilisation, these hard living, hell-raising cowboys sung the bittersweet ballads of the West. In any cattle town there was always a roadside dive, a Honky Tonk, where the tunes from old guitars flowed as freely as the beer and where a timeless genre of country music and unforgettable style was born.

A certain cowboy legend at the time was a mercantilist named Henry David Lee, whose technique of cutting the front and back panels of the selvedge to make jeans with a saddle-shaped fit became essential gear for riding those long hours through the prairies. Invented in 1926, Lee Riders served an important function and the rugged metal zippers and cross tacks reinforced the durability needed for a hard days work.

Lee hearkens back to the golden age of individualism, just as Honky Tonk never really died – but was given a new expression by the likes of Bob Dylan and Hank Williams. Lee Riders are this seasons Gold Label, each piece designed according to HD Lee’s original side line drafts, complete with spade-shaped pockets, U-shaped selvedge denim and sateen finish. The Gold Label collection is a ‘new’ original collection in it own right and a must have for any denim aficionado.

Urban Drifters

A collection of sun drenched summer brights, with antique gold hardware reflecting summer evenings and beach fires. Romantic overtones and repeated tonal stitching are cast against a loose, summer silhouette. Soft two tone dyes surface on looser shapes for women and fuller silhouettes for men.
