Coffee is a religion for Matthew Clark and Tubbs Wanigasekera, the two Kiwi friends behind SACRED. On moving to the UK, their search for a good flat white was an endless catalogue of watery lattes and over-frothy cappuccinos. After this fruitless hunt, they decided to turn their passion into a profession.
SACRED is set to be the ultimate destination for your morning coffee, afternoon tea and evening drinks late into the night when the basement will open for live music and high-energy caffeine shots.
Flavoured infusions of coffee sit alongside the SACRED house roast. With over 100 years in the Sri Lankan (Ceylon) tea industry spanning four geneations, co-owner Tubbs has put tea on the menu, offering specialist flavours and exclusive brands alongside your traditional English brew. A mouth watering selection of cakes and fresh cream deserts compliment the drinks, and if you order the crème brulee, the staff will whip out a blow torch and burn the sugar for your pud as it sits in front of you.
Taking centre stage, the revered coffee machine sits in a pulpit and the shelf behind the bar houses a selection of ornaments that are special to friends of SACRED. The welcoming interior matches the attitude of the friendly staff, who aim to know all their regulars and will draw you into playful banter.
The concept behind SACRED is set to lead the next generation of coffee shops in the UK, leaving the Starbucks of this world far behind.
You can now experience SACRED in Kingly Court.
