Timeless Heritage and Hospitality
This fine Victorian pub was built in 1898 when it became the local for policemen from the nearby Special Constable Reserve. The turret and dome outside are typical of the era. Inside, there are many original features including rich wood carvings and structural ironwork. The raised seating area at the back was probably the landlord’s parlour.
Food, drink, history and eccentricity since 1873
Every Nicholson’s alehouse is unique. Each has a story to tell – of the artisans who built it and of the heroes, villains and eccentrics who made it their home. Our pubs are part of a great British tradition of alehouse hospitality. They’re grand yet homely, exactly as our founder, William Nicholson, intended.
Discover The Clachan’s new artesian food menus served throughout the day.
Breakfast is served from 10.00am to 12 noon daily. Enjoy the tradition Nicholson’s breakfast with Cumberland sausages, mushrooms and free range eggs.
From 12 noon to 10.00pm every day, light snacks to a full dinner menus are offered.
On the new restaurant menu enjoy, grilled Seabass fillets, half roast duck and braised pork confit. Lighter bites include warm Halloumi salad, pressed pork and sage terrine and grilled chicken sandwich. Not forgetting the pub classics fish and chips, 10oz 21 day aged rib-eye steak, beef and vintage ale pie and Cumberland sausage and mash.
