The Kooples - a rock 'n' roll inspired fashion label with a very British edge founded by three French brothers - Alexander, Laurent and Raphael Elicha, each with an outstanding sense of style.
Just watch them enter a room and the depth and complexity of their passion for fashion becomes crystal clear. Dapper from head to toe, their slim silhouettes are svelte, sober, offbeat and chic. The more we notice the details of their dress-British blazers turned up at the sleeve, black sunglasses worn in the wee morning hours, three-day-old beards, tall thin boots, retro Zippos, worn brass buttons on vintage car coats-the easier it is to define their signature modern-dandy style.
Sidestepping trends and seasons, The Kooples main objective is to create clothes that resist the passage of time and remain elegant for all of eternity. The ability to revive "must haves" from past decades and centuries is one of the luxuries of our postmodern era. Travelling across time and between cultures, a ring designed by The Kooples, for example, may be inspired by a 17th century vanity but re-interpreted through the lense of Carnaby's very own legendary jewellers The Great Frog. Sharply tailored sleeves sewn in the iconic ateliers of Saville Row, the epicentre of British elegance, are shaken up with 21st century flourishes for a modern twist on tradition.
Take a look at their first campaign (above) to see how influential rock n' roll is on the brothers' sense of style perfectly illustrating their signature, androgynous style. Narrow, black leather coats, cigarette trousers, short navy jackets, striped button-down shirts, and khaki trench coats with subtle military accents make up an undeniably masculine wardrobe. While designing for the boys, however, they were sure to never forget the girls. As a result, many of the key pieces walk the line between masculine and feminine such as ¾-length sleeve shirts, leather skirts and dresses.
A complete wardrobe for men and women composed of interchangeable, like-minded parts.
