AW12 Fred Perry Laurel Wreath by Richard Nicoll presents an equestrian led collection that plays with the idea of British eccentricity. A whimsical all over horse print is set against a rich palette of blue, magenta, pink and opal. The designers signature feminine tailoring takes on luxurious silk, cotton, wool and cashmere fabrics. Fred Perry’s British heritage marries with Nicoll’s catwalk sensibility to create yet another sophisticated and fun collection.
As with previous seasons the Laurel has been added to product via a press stud. Some pieces have also been embroidered or cleverly applied via a cut-out and embroidered Laurel on the reverse of the product.
The equestrian all over horse print and sequin detailing take precedence. Traditional Harlequin patterns are present on cashmere pieces and pussy bow’s feature on shirts.
Key pieces include puff sleeve blouses, soft wool dresses and sequin embellished knitwear. As well as the Duffle Coat with Laurel detailed toggles to complete the look. The collection also features a soft leather saddle bag and cartridge bag. A wedge heeled suede moccasin in both Navy and Ginger are welcome additions to the range.
Following on from the success of the SS12 collection, Men’s Laurel Wreath collection continues to be designed by Kenneth Mackenzie- founder and designer of the influential 6876 label. This season the designer looks to the 60’s Bridget Riley, Op art aesthetic to update Fred Perry classics and inject newly designed pieces. Mackenzie’s acute attention to detail and preference for architectural silhouettes and construction blends perfectly with Fred Perry’s original urban streetwear aesthetic.
Wherever possible, Fred Perry sources and utilises British made fabric and British factories to make select products. In this collection, attention to technical materials has also been paid. Key products in the collection include the Sport Layer Roll Neck, featuring anti-bacterial lining to keep you both warm and dry and the Sport Layer Shirts which feature an extra material insert for warmth.
Other key features which draw on the 60’s influence include vertical striping and stop-start graphic dotting present across polo shirts, cardigans and knitwear. A collection of polo’s both short and long sleeved and Merino wool knitwear in both V-Neck and Crew display a stand-out seam shift detail in the core colour-ways of the collection. Graphite Marl, enamel blue, amethyst, maelstrom, nettle, ginger snap and the ever popular maroon tie the collection together while bringing a fundamental pop of colour to the Winter range.
