A series of free talks will take place at The Clachan throughout July as part of Soho Music Month.
Soho aficionado Chris Sullivan; journalist, DJ, painter and founder of the infamous Wag Club gathers together a line up of true Soho ‘ace faces’ whose tales of misdemeanor, style mongering, and general high jinx within the square mile, will have you rolling in the aisles.
JULY 15 - 7:00PM
Sullivan’s guest is the larger than life tailor to the stars and all-round King of Soho - Mark Powell, who has walked the streets of Soho for 50 years, been to every bar and club while immaculate to the last in his trademark bespoke 3 piece suits and Albert chain.
JULY 20 - 7:00PM
Sullivan shares the stage with Suggs of Madness. There is no pop star in the world more capable of commenting on the style and musical legacy of Soho than the beloved Suggs McPherson of Madness. Suggs is passionate about Soho, he first took to the Soho streets as a toddler accompanied by his mother, eminent jazz singer the late Edie McPherson. They lived on Tottenham Court Road and Soho was their playground. “I grew up in the sixties and my mum was always hanging out in Soho in the French House and The Colony”, he recalls. “I remember seeing all these guys in these fantastic Italian style suits - gangsters such as John Binden and actors like Terence Stamp.
JULY 22 - 7:00PM
We have the quite marvellous Philip Sallon, the man of a million outfits, who has been at the centre of London nightlife and style since the 70s and is one of the most important and certainly outlandish nightclub promoters of the 20th Century whose clubs such as the Planets and Mudd Club changed nightlife forever.
JULY 29 - 7:00PM
Sullivan waxes lyrical with the astonishing Princess Julia - the Queen of The Blitz club, DJ at legendary nights such as Kinky Gerlinky, Pacha, and Leigh Bowery’s Taboo, iD music editor, fashion icon and one of the world’s most stylishly innovative ladies.
