We are proud to announce a collaboration with ocean conservation charity Project Zero to inspire the restaurant, bar and café community of Carnaby to take action to protect the ocean.
The Blue Turtle is a mark of commitment which lets people know that Carnaby eateries have met criteria that helps to safeguard our planet's life support system, the ocean. The mark has been adopted by restaurants, bars and café’s that are working towards being ocean-friendly and are committed to continuing to improve their practices. Our vision is for Carnaby to become the most ocean-friendly destination in London.
Restaurants, bars and cafés have been asked to make this pledge to eliminate avoidable single-use plastics, reduce waste and source only sustainable seafood. Once businesses commit to adopting these practices, the bar, restaurant or café will be awarded a Blue Turtle to display in their window to let you know that they are committed to these practices. We are proud that 50 establishments have now made the Blue Turtle pledge including all of the restaurants, bars and cafés in Kingly Court.
There are now over 30 places that have been awarded with their Blue Turtle mark signifying their commitment towards being ocean-friendly and improving their practices. These are The Rum Kitchen, Crumbs & Doilies, Bread Ahead, Jinjuu, Pure, Pizza Pilgrims, PITTABUN, Le Bab, Wright Brothers, The Diner, Darjeeling Express, The Detox Kitchen, Chai by Mira, Dirty Bones, Cahoots, Whyte & Brown, Island Poke, Señor Ceviche, The Good Egg, Soho Grind, Shoryu, Stax Diner, Two Floors, Polpo, Ugly Dumpling, Tapas Brindisa, Antidote, Dishoom, Flat Iron, Kolamba, INKO NITO, The Life Goddess, Oka, Disrepute and Farm Girl.
Look out for the Blue Turtle logo around Carnaby so you know the purchases you make are helping safeguard the ocean.
The initiative is in collaboration with Project Zero and advised by an expert committee including ZSL, OneLess, Leon, Veolia, A Plastic Planet and Blue Marine Foundation.
The Blue Turtle mark of commitment gives customers a way to make informed choices. Together with Project Zero, we aim to reduce the consumption of single-use plastic and encourage our businesses to adopt sustainable practices to put the brakes on the global climate crisis. Our amazing restaurants will be provided with information on how to source sustainable products, services and suppliers as well as local regulations and hands-on support.
The ocean is Earth’s life support system, taking up 70% of our planet’s surface and giving us every drop of water we drink, and every second breath we take. Today, the ocean is under attack from climate change, overfishing and plastic pollution. It’s time to show it some love. The Blue Turtle is a step towards creating a sustainable future for our planet.
