We are proud to announce a collaboration with ocean conservation charity Project Zero to inspire the restaurant, bar and café community of Carnaby to take action to protect the ocean.
The Blue Turtle is a mark of commitment which lets people know that Carnaby eateries have met criteria that helps to safeguard our planet's life support system, the ocean. The mark has been adopted by restaurants, bars and café’s that are working towards being ocean-friendly and are committed to continuing to improve their practises. Our vision is for Carnaby to become the most ocean-friendly destination in London.
The initiative is in collaboration with Project Zero and advised by an expert committee including ZSL, OneLess, Leon, Veolia, A Plastic Planet and Blue Marine Foundation.
Together with Project Zero, we aim to reduce the consumption of single-use plastic and encourage our businesses to adopt sustainable practices to put the brakes on the global climate crisis. Our amazing restaurants are provided with information on how to source sustainable products, services and suppliers as well as local regulations and hands-on support.
The ocean is Earth’s life support system, taking up 70% of our planet’s surface and giving us every drop of water we drink, and every second breath we take. Today, the ocean is under attack from climate change, overfishing and plastic pollution. It’s time to show it some love. The Blue Turtle is a step towards creating a sustainable future for our planet.
Restaurants, bars and cafés have been asked to make this pledge to eliminate avoidable single-use plastics, reduce waste and source only sustainable seafood. Once businesses commit to adopting these practises, the bar, restaurant or café will be awarded a Blue Turtle to display in their window to let you know that they are committed to these practises. We are proud that 50 establishments have now made the Blue Turtle pledge including all of the restaurants, bars and cafés in Kingly Court.
The Blue Turtle Pledge
ELIMINATE AVOIDABLE SINGLE-USE PLASTIC PRODUCTS. Including; water bottles, straws, cutlery, take away containers, coffee cups and lids, food packaging, bowls and cups by 2022.
PROVIDE AND PROMOTE TAP WATER ACCESS TO ALL.
REDUCE WASTE. Practice comprehensive waste management – Reduce, Reuse, Recycle.
